Finding out what size air filter your home needs can be tricky. Learn how to measure and find out what type and grade of air filters are best for your home.

How to Find the Right Air Filter Size

Finding the right air filter size for your home can be a daunting task. But with a few simple steps, you can easily determine the size of the filter you need. Typically, the filter size is printed along the edge of the filter frame. Note that the size shown in bold type on the filter frame is the nominal size of the filter, which is likely to differ from its actual size.

For example, if you have a heating unit model FG7SA-045C-23A, you don't need to look any further than your existing filters. In the outer frame, you'll see at least one set of numbers. If you see two sets of numbers, the filter size needed to request replacements is the nominal size, not the actual size. You can ignore the actual size printed on the filter for this task, since the nominal size is the set of numbers needed to order new filters.

The easiest way to know what size filter to buy for your oven is to simply remove the current filter and look at its dimensions. They are usually printed along one side of the filter. Of course, this sounds easy when you hear the term “standard air filter size”; you might think that if your air filter is standard, it will be easy to find it when you arrive at the store. However, this isn't always true. The reason is that air filters need to be a little smaller than the slots they fit into in order to be able to replace them easily.

Therefore, the filter slot will be slightly smaller than the size of the air filter you need to buy. From sizes to types, grades and more, here's everything you need to know about air filters. The MERV air filter rating is a measure of the effectiveness of an air filter in removing particles from the air. If an air filter is too small, this will create air gaps and contaminants will avoid filter material. In fact, if you have to force an air filter in or out, it's the wrong size, so standard sizes are usually half an inch smaller than advertised.

Look for where the return duct connects to your oven, and there should be a plate that covers the slot where the air cleaner enters. AC filters are available in many different sizes, so it can be overwhelming if you're not sure what size filter you need. Basically, when you take measurements of an air filter, you just need to round the nearest inch to find the dimensions of the filter you need to buy. Please note that the actual size of the air cleaner will be smaller than the nominal size of the air cleaner. A higher MERV rating means that an air filter is more effective at removing the smallest particles from the air. You'll need to do this if your oven is missing the air filter and you don't know what size the air filter is supposed to be. Once you enter your filter sizes with us once, not only do you not have to remember when it's time to change them, but you no longer need to remember those complicated sizes.
