Generally speaking, you should replace the engine air filter every 12,000 to 15,000 miles. Check your vehicle's maintenance schedule in the owner's manual and follow the manufacturer's recommendations. Air filters stop silica and other solid contaminants by trapping particles in the fibers that make up the filter media.
